Jewelry and metal sculpture will be among the pieces on display at the Lyons Township High School Spring Art Show in the Corral building at the south campus, 4900 S. Willow Springs Road, Western Springs. The intermediate jewelry and metalsmithing class at Lyons Township High School isn’t just for producing a lovely piece of jewelry or metal sculpture. But after submerging the metal frame with delicate flames on the sides in acid to oxidize the pendant, the art student noticed some of her design had been eaten away. “I decided this stone looked like a candle flame, and the shape reminded me a petal,” Floyd said during her class. Western Springs junior Acadia Floyd admits to a bit of frustration, at times, with materials and processes that don’t always cooperate with her vision.

-– Seven first-time participants are among the 42 artists selected by a jurist to exhibit in the sixth annual Art on the Wabash, a local artists’ fair slated for West Lafayette’s Tapawingo Park from 10:00a to 4:00p, Sunday, September 18, 2011. Eight artists, including Waymire, are bringing a variety of clay, glass and metal jewelry: Elizabeth Beeson, EB Bead and Metal Works, Linda Elmore, Lisa Hopkins, Rebecca Minniear, Joanne Kuhn Titolo and Lisa Walsh. She earned her bachelor’s at Wayne State University and her master’s of fine arts at Louisiana State University, both in printmaking. Glass artists, who make various objects including jewelry, are Kathryn Bodine, Kathleen Kitch and Beverly Skinner. Artists were chosen from more than 50 applicants by jurist Minda Douglas, assistant professor in fine arts at Indiana University Kokomo. New to the fair this year are Monticello’s Deborah Waymire, who makes glass jewelry. and six artists from Greater Lafayette — Rheta Eason, mixed media.
